Get some help
For the sake of their own enjoyment, couples should designate an onsite decision-maker for them as well, Neja said. This person should understand the terms agreed upon with each vendor and able to remind the couple of the repercussions of last-minute additions.
“The bride and groom need help so they can enjoy their day,” Neja said.
Stem agrees that it’s nearly impossible to plan for everything without a little help. The planning process can be long and complicated and it is important to be prepared and organized.
“Every bride should have a planning book,” she said. “Pay attention to the checklists and follow the guidelines they give.”
Another important source of information is friends and family. Ask advice from others who have been through this before. They will be happy to share what worked for them and what didn’t.
“Ask them what they thought was really worth the money they spent, and what they could have done without,” Stern said. “Remember that every decision you make means money.”
