• Do not get too much sun before the wedding. The make-up doesn’t look as good over a dark tan.
• If you want a perm, get it one month before the wedding. For color, get it at least two weeks ahead.
• Don’t wash your hair on the day you plan to have it styled. It holds better if it’s not totally clean.
On the day of the wedding, the bride should plan on two hours for her hair and make-up with another hour between that and the start of the wedding. If the same stylist will be used by the bridesmaids, they should be done first, leaving them available to help the bride with last-minute details and morale support. Manicures and pedicures can be done a day ahead.
Although McNickle said that most brides come in wanting to look different from their everyday selves, she offered one final tip for brides-to-be.
“The main thing is that you want to look like you. You don’t want to look too made-up or too different.”

Body by Design is another local business offering a wide range of services to bridal parties. Laura Sherman, stylist and consultant, stresses the importance of planning.
“We always ask the brides to find out what they want several months ahead and have practice runs,” said Sherman.
Services offered by Body by Design include all hair treatments, nails, body wraps, make-up, waxing and non-surgical face lifts. Sherman advises brides who wish to have a body wrap to avoid sugar and salt and drink plenty of water to get the most out of the wrap.
Although both these salons — and others in Fauquier — offer special treatment to brides and their maids, their services are available anytime to any woman who wants a little extra pampering and beauty.
