On Wednesday, Feb. 2 students will set up their displays in the Rappahannock County Elementary School Multipurpose Room. Local winners will receive plaques, ribbons and invitations to the Piedmont Regional science Fair to be held in Charlottesville on March 16. Senior Division Winners at Charlottesville continue on to the State Science Fair and possibly even to the International Science Fair.
Across the country, science fairs provide opportunities for students to actually do science themselves, and to show off their achievements. Students plan and carry out an experiment, collect data and interpret the results. The fair is the culmination, as students showcase their projects for the judges and the general public. Awards will be presented to winning students on Friday afternoon.
