On an acre donated by Mrs. Lily Barber between her home and that of Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Winfrey, ground will be broken for the new Baptist parsonage being built by Woodville and Mt. Lebanon Churches. Maurice O’Bannon gave use of the bulldozer to dig the basement, several carpenters in the neighborhood have given a week’s labor and C.W. Hawkins is giving his services in the construction. The new parsonage will be ready when the new minister arrives in May. According to a statement issued from the office of D.C. Link, Principal of Washington High School, word has been received from Thomas T. Hamilton, director of Secondary Education, State Department of Education, Richmond, to the effect that this high school has been placed on the accredited list for 1949-51. On the suggestion of Robert L. Brown, treasurer of Rappahannock County, the salary set for the treasurer’s office was fixed at $3,200 with $600 added for a part-time assistant. This is a saving of $500 to the county, and Treasurer Brown stated that he, as well as anyone could know, was in a position to state that the county needed to save money wherever it could.
