Michael Vargo
OCCUPATION: Headmaster at Wakefield Country Day School ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Michael Vargo has been Headmaster at Wakefield Country Day School at Huntly since 1996. Before his arrival at Huntly, Mr. Vargo was affiliated with Georgetown Preparatory School, founded in 1789 and one of the oldest boys’ boarding schools in the country.
He served as both Assistant Headmaster and Academic Dean. Mr. Vargo holds a Bachelors Degree from Georgetown University and a Masters from New York University. He is . currently a doctoral candidate in educational administration at Columbia University.
Mr. Vargo has traveled extensively, and has visited schools in 23 countries, most recently China.
While at Georgetown Prep, Mr. Vargo developed a Summer English Program which provided English instruction and international living experience for as many as 120 students per year. He also founded an International Students’ Program which enabled students from > abroad to complete their education in the U.S. and receive a high school diploma. Since coming to Wakefield Country Day School, Mr. Vargo has welcomed international students from Mexico, Japan, Spain, Benin, Thailand, Korea, Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey, Panama, Germany and Ukraine. “One of the strengths of Wakefield Country Day School is the diversity of its student body and the commitment of both students and staff. We are currently experiencing a period of growth in the lower school with a ! waiting list for our early childhood program. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to serve in a community that offers such support and encouragement for what we are doing here.” One of Mr. Vargo’s goals for Wakefield Country Day School is to have students give back to the community through student government and Key Club activities.
