A reluctant Mayor Stew Willis accepted birthday praise and song at the February meeting of the Washington Town Council. Though • he would not directly divulge his age, the Mayor did admit that he was now eligible for Medicare which, by this reporter’s calculations, places him somewhere between 52 and 65 years old.
After the brief birthday festivities, the council got down to its short February agenda.
Treasurer Elaine Viguerie presented the town’s financial report, noting consolidated assets of $430,201.34, down a few hundred dollars from that reported in January, and Water Works current assets of $7,238.52, compared to the 12/31/99 figure of $8,027.27.
She also presented a six-month budget progress report through December of 1999. This report showed that the town’s finances are in quite respectable condition, with consolidated income for the period running nearly $50,000 over that budgeted, and expenses at a pace ~ approximately $30,000 under budget.
