The first rounds of the second annual National Geography Bee were held recently at schools across the country, including Rappahannock Elementary and Wakefield. At RCES, sixth grader Jennings Carney was the winner, while at Wakefield eighthgrader Oliver Culley bested his schoolmates' with his knowledge of geography. — The 1989 Governor’s Clean Virginia awards were presented to 65 programs representing 92 localities, including Rappahannock County for their comprehensive litter prevention and recycling programs. The Rappahannock Anti-Utter League and " 1 You, representing Rappahannock County, ‘ '/t received the Department’s Award of ‘ Recognition for the third straight year.
