Charlotte Nichols
Hometown: Flint Hill Occupation: Grandmother extraordinaire, active community volunteer, retired schoolteacher. Education: Bachelor of Arts, 1949, Lynchburg College Accomplishments: Came to Rappahannock as Charlotte Golladay in 1950 as the public school music teacher, there were 11 schools in Rappahannock then (seven “white” schools and four “black” schools). Married Paul Nichols in 1953. Quit teaching in 1956 to begin a boisterous family of four children. Started the Cub Scout program in Rappahannock in 1964 with the aid of her husband and other community families. Continued to be active in Cub Scouts as a den mother through 1973. She was awarded the scouting Statuette in 1969, in recognition of outstanding service to scouting. All three of her sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout. In addition to three sons, Mrs. Nichols also has a daughter, Leslie, who individuals of all ages admire and respect.
