Rappahannock County schools last week offered student scientists the opportunity to show their talents. Required for middle schoolers and optional for high school students, the annual Science Fair provides a public occasion for the display of the application of the scientific method by nascent scientists.
A stroll through the hundreds of projects revealed a real diversity—a comparison of the cleaning properties of various dish detergents; insulative properties of several fabrics; the ‘bouncability’ of different softball constructs.
At a Friday assembly hosted by Associate Principal Richard Smith and Assistant Superintendent Mary Ann Biggs, the winners in both the Junior and Senior Divisions were honored.
The four Senior Division and twelve Junior Division winners will all go to the Regional Science Fair at Piedmont Virginia Community College on March 16, and those successful at the regional level will go on to compete in the State Science Fair.
