and maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. Eating is one of life’s pleasures and since there are many ways to take action for good health.
There are three basic messages with the Dietary Guidelines, 2000. They are (a) Aim for fitness, (b) Build a healthy base and (c) Choose sensibly.
In this section the two guidelines are aim for a healthy weight and be physically active each day. Following these two guidelines will help keep you and your family healthy and fit.
Healthy eating and regular physical activity enable people of all ages to work productively, enjoy life, and feel their best. They also help children grow, develop, and do well in school.
The second message is build a healthy base. The guidelines in this section refer to the foods we eat; let the pyramid guide your food choices, eat a variety of grains daily, especially whole grains, eat a variety of fruits and vegetables daily and keep food safe to eat.
