On the day of the big snow, Jan. 26, Arthur Arundel of The Plains telephoned to say that goldfinches were not eating thistle seed at his feeder. Could it be that he had a bad batch of seed?
He wants to know, so do I. Are other readers having this experience? The goldfinches at the Trott feeder in Flint Hill are happily consuming black-oil sunflower seed. Our birds only get thistle seed when it comes in a mix.
