According to the Washington, D.C. newspaper reports, Mr. Schroeder was very open to the recommendations in the report as were the School Superintendents of Fairfax and Prince William counties. Common sense prevails, thousands cheer! Not quite.
On Feb. 8 Governor Gilmore weighed in and indicated that he is opposed to any change in the 70 percent requirement, and the president of the Virginia Board of Education, Mr. Kirk Schroder, said his views expressed just the day before were misrepresented in the newspaper articles.
I would expect that any day now the Thomas Jefferson Institute will announce that Mr. Wheat is on an extended sabbatical. In the meantime, the focus of debate is not on improving our student’s education but continues to be on this manufactured political trick.
