Scouting
Congratulations to the county’s
newest Eagle Scouts.
Much of this issue is devoted to scouting and we
would like to especially offer our congratulations
to Phillip Thomas and Matthew Wolfe.
They were honored last Tuesday evening, Feb. 8 at a recognition dinner and will formally receive their awards at a local Troop- 36 Court of Honor this Saturday, Feb. 19.
The recognition dinner was held on the 90th birthday of Boy Scouting in America and several Rappahannock residents attended the Winchester function.
The accomplishments of these two young men appear on the front page this week. More scouting activities and photographs are in the B section. Much more could have been said about the scouts, their parents, their leaders and projects.
We are extremely proud to recognize Mrs. Charlotte Nichols as citizen of the week. Mrs. Nichols’ husband, Paul was a driving force in scouting in this county for years.
The entire community will benefit from the many projects that our Rappahannock scouts have been involved with over the years.
Our thanks for the renovations at the Rappahannock Park; the resurfacing and striping of the parking lot at Trinity Episcopal; kitchen refurbishing at the Flint Hill Fire Hall; basketball area at Reynolds Memorial; restoring trails at Child Care Learning Center and the list goes on.
Perhaps the advice from former Governor George Allen to the scouts at their dinner last week summarizes it best: “continue to be leaders, setting examples for all to see, and to truly soar as Eagles.”
