Following retirement, Mrs. Thornton was ever present within the community. Her volunteer efforts in Rappahannock County will long be remembered.
Mrs. Thornton was a regular at the public school system, the Historical Society and at the County library. She was also a member of the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board, Friends of the Library Board, served on the Vocational Education Advisory Board, the Rappahannock County School Board, Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church and the list goes on.
Though her responsibilities to the general public expanded throughout her lifetime, she never lost her concern and care for the county’s children.
She definitely was one of the finest ladies that ever served Rappahannock County and a dear friend to all. We will miss her.
