GIVING FORGIVENESS
It may not be easy to forgive, but doing so does bring peace and freedom. Withholding forgiveness leads to stress and anger, both of which only add a layer of hurt to the original transgression. To begin the healing process, do not wait for an apology, which may never come. Instead, take the initiative. If need be, empathize with your offender, who may have acted out of ignorance, fear, or pain. Recall any time when you yourself, were on the receiving end of forgiveness, and relive the sense of relief you might have felt. And, remember that forgiving is not forgetting. Acknowledge that hurt feelings can linger after you have forgiven, but you will be free to move on.
