1998 Comprehensive Plan notes five villages: Amissville, Chester Gap, Flint Hill, Sperryville, and Woodville. The Town of Washington is also regarded as a village, and it has its own Comprehensive Plan.
In Rappahannock County, village planning in the Comprehensive Plan is summed up in two statements: first, it is encouraged that residential development be within the designated village areas, with infill development preferred; and second, an allowance is to be made for the broadest possible range of housing opportunities, styles, and configurations, within the context of a rural, agricultural community.
