Mrs. Frances B. Thornton, described by many over the past week as “one of the finest” died Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. •- -She was bom July 14, 1921 in Rappahannock County, a daughter of the late J. Rodes Brown and Anna Smith Brown.
Mrs. Thornton graduated from University of Virginia School of Nursing in 1942. Following her graduation she served as head nurse at University of Virginia Hospital from September 1942 to November 1943.
Mrs. Thornton was a teacher at Woodville Elementary School from January 1948 to September 1950.
In October 1950, Mrs. Thornton became the first public health nurse in Rappahannock County and served in that capacity until her retirement in July 1986.
