I have a difficult task - write
a tribute to Frances Thornton. Rappahannock County has lost yet another home grown treasure. Frances died Feb. 19 less than a month after being diagnosed with cancer.
Frances was a no-nonsense woman who spoke her mind. She had a heart of gold and would not want a tribute. Her special interests included children, health care, and history. She would pitch in and help wherever needed which is something you don’t see near enough of these days.
I first knew her as “Mrs. Thornton” the nurse that came to school and helped give us vaccinations. She was intimidating at the time. I recently heard a story of a girl who was badly burned. Frances saw her through several surgeries and she grew up to become a home health nurse. When she learned of
