Frances illness she came to see if she could be of help. There are more of these stories that will come out.
In 1997 I was asked to join Frances researching the Rappahannock Historical Society’s Cemetery Project. I wondered how she would take to sharing the project. She told me she was glad I would do it. She said she went alone to a remote graveyard, climbed its stone wall and could not get out. Wondering what she would do she eventually propped a broken tombstone against the wall and used it as a ladder.
Frances volunteered at the Society on Tuesdays. She prepared index cards for birth, death, marriage, and slave records. She transcribed census records and summarized wills.
Two years ago she decided to learn to use the computer. She really got into it sitting
