Miss Boyls was a devoted aunt to three generations of nieces and nephews. Those living in the Washington area are her niece Ria Finch of Arlington, great-niece Stephanie Finch of Rappahannock County, and nephew Tom Boyls of Upper Marlboro, who took care of her in her final years.

She was born in Rappahannock County to the late Walter Blueford Kilby and Margaret Frances Kilby.
In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Lewis Williamson Tyus Jr.
