• Read Across America Day is celebrated every year on or around the birthday of Dr. Seuss, a favorite author of children the world over.' Schools try to instill a love of reading every day of the year, but Read Across America Day gives us an opportunity to think about how important reading is and how we should all learn to read just for the pure joy of it! Ask your children about the fun activities they are doing in school to commemorate this day.
• Think of a reading related activity you can do with your family on or around March 2 (just around the corner). Visit a library or a used-book store. Find a new, delicious-sounding recipe in a cookbook. Have someone read it as you prepare it. Decide where you would like to go on your next vacation. Look for books, or newspaper or magazine articles about that special place, and all the things you can do there.
The Olympics! Who was your favorite athlete? Look for interesting articles to read about that person, or look for books about your favorite event. Read to a young child. Get hooked!
