Columbus Day Closings

Columbus Day will be observed Monday, October 8. Closed are all state and county offices; Rappahannock National Bank of Washington and Farmers and Merchants Bank of Flint Hill; Rappahannock Social Services and the Rappahannock Mental Health Clinic. In case of an emergency, Mental Health Clinic staff can be reached by calling 6753329.

• Supervisors To Meet Friday

Rappahannock’s Board of Supervisors will hold a public meeting at the courthouse October 5 to discuss county programs in regard to the handicapped. In order to receive federal revenue-sharing funds, the county must by October 16: Complete a self-evaluation of compliance with federal law in regard to the handicapped; examine the county’s grievance procedure for the handicapped; establish transition plans to show the county can be in compliance where necessary within two years.

The board also will act on a new dog-tag ordinance Friday. The board held a public hearing on the proposed ordinance October 1, but could not make a decision at the time because 14 days had not yet elapsed from the time of the second advertisement in regard to the ordinance.
