Steeplechasing At Middletmrg This Weekend
The fall steeplechase season continues'this'weekend with two days of racing at Middleburg’s picturesque Glenwood Park.
Races start at 2 p.m. both days with six brush races on the card for Saturday, including a $5,000 feature race, and two timber races and five fiat races on Sunday.
Several locally owned horses have been entered in Saturday’s brush race, including Mrs. Samuel E. Bogley’s Sampson Hall, winner of his last two starts, Mrs. Harry Duffey’s Pestamystic a seven-time winner over fences and Margaret E. White’s Derry Rumroe, a recent winner at Foxfield. All three owners live near Middleburg.
Sunday’s open timber race will feature Dr. Joseph M. Rogers’ 1983 Virginia Gold Cup winner Private Gary, who won the Bowman Bowl at Fairfax in his last start.
Three-time Steeplechase Horse of the Year, Mrs. Lewis Murdoch’s Zaccio, will run in an open flat race at Middleburg which will probably be his final start on the fiat prior to his racing over fences later in the season.
General admission to the races is $5. A limited num ber of parking spaces on the rail also be available for $10 a car and $5 per occupant. Glenwood Park is on Route 626 north of Middleburg.
