Mr. Gatwood began his violin studies at the age of seven. He continued to study with the finest teachers, winning the Fritz Kreisler Scholarship at JuilUard, where he studied for five years, and attending the prestigious Meadowmount School of Musk for seven summers. He has won numerous competitions, and in the fifth Montreal International Competition he was the highest ranking prize winner from the Western Hemisphere.
Described in Le Figaro as “violinist extraordinaire,” Mr. Gatwood has been called by critics around the world “an elegant violinist”, elegant being defined by Webster as “tasteful, polished, graceful, refined.”
The Washington Post has also said of him: “Without question Jody Gatwood provided the highlight of the program with his thrilling juxtaposition of sensitivity and virtuosity. . .(he) brought a pure singing tone, unfaltering grace and the requisite amount of fire...”
Pittsburgh Press wrote: “Gatwood is obviously a sensitive, thoughtful and elegant young violinist.”
