This fall’s childrens’ clothes are cut in geometric shapes. Wool is back, texture is important and bright colors are in. Knits of all sorts are making fashion headlines. Tops made of wool and wool blends are striking for their convertible collars, ftuinel necks and asymmetrical closures. Knit dresses are squarely cut and fall loosely about the figure creating a boxy silhouette. These wools are remarkable for their nubby, ribbed textures and many of them are specially treated to be machine washable and dryable. The new layered look accentuates these rich textures. Sweaters and accessories are carefully coordinated.
Adding to the layered look are bulky socks worn over tights to emphasize the ankle. Argyles and geometric knits are important patterns for both sweaters and socks. Few patterns will be seen that are not checks, triangles, houndstooth or argyles. Animal motifs are often included in designs for young children.
