WAS appointments
The Women’s Abuse Shelter, Inc., (WAS) announces the appointment of Rachel Saunders as director and LaVem Judd as services coordinator effective immediately.
With these appointments, it is now possible for the WAS office, located at No. 23, 102 N. Main Street, Culpeper, to expand its present 12 hours a week to 30 hours weekly — Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers still remain available seven days a week from 7 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Calls are accepted 24 hours a day.
In 1984, the WAS answered 762 calls for help and information and housed 55 women and 81 children. In the first six months of 1985, the office received 720 calls and housed 22 women and 34 children. The WAS support group is presently working with eight women and 10 children.
In July the office took four families to other shelters because of lack of space.
Rappahannock County represents five percent of the calls WAS receives.
