When the doors to our public schools are opened for students on Monday morning, nearly one-third of the faces behind the teacher’s desk in each classroom will be new to the Rappahannock County educational system.
That is a disturbing statistic.
The tremendous turnover rate is a serious indictment of our education system as a whole — from the county supervisor passing the budget to the small landowner paying his taxes.
Good teachers are hard to find. We have been told that for years. Keeping good ones here, apparently, is even more difficult.
