Rappahannock County Supervisors voted unanimously Friday to drop its insurance coverage from a Culpeper agent in favor of buying a policy through the Virginia Municipal League, thereby eliminating one of the two policies the county bought in June.
On the advice of a paid consultant, Supervisors chose to buy the policy covering the county government and its employees through the VML. That policy was written by Alexander and Alexander, a Richmond firm that insures other towns in Virginia.
Many of the coverages written into a policy submitted by the Clements Insurance Agency of Culpeper were cancelled on short notice in early June —just before the coverage was to expire — leaving the county scrambling for a substitute policy. The cancellation was blamed on new regulations within the insurance industry which affected the writing of some policies.
After contacting the Virginia Municipal League, a group representing towns throughout the state, Rappahannock was able to secure coverage. Shortly thereafter, however,
