artists invited
Craftsmen and artists are invited to submit their work for consideration in the Christmas Consignment Show and Sale at Oatlands Plantation near Leesburg.
The sale will run in conjunction » with “Christmas at Oatlands,” an annual event set for November 9 through December 15.
The celebration includes candlelight tours of Oatlands, a Greek Revival mansion built by George Carter about 1804. It is now the prpperty of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The show and sale will be held in the carriage house.
Interested crafts and arts people are asked to submit an application, including a $5 application fee. Applications can be obtained by calling 7773174 in Leesburg, or by writing to “Christmas at Oatlands,” Oatlands, Inc., Rt. 2, Box 352, Leesburg22075.
Applications must be accompanied by slides or a photo of the work or, preferably, an appointment can be made to have the work personally reviewed at Oatlands. In addition to the $5 application fee, a commission is charged on all work sold. The deadline for receipt of application is September 18.
Museum seeks
resident artist
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is accepting applications through October 15 for its artist-in-residence program for the 1986-87 season.
Each year the museum organizes a team of selected artists and crafts professionals to share their expertise with Virginians across the state.
In each locality they visit, artists in residence generally provide an evening lecture or lecture-demonstration and then a one-day workshop to encourage hands-on experience in a specific medium or technique.
This season, the museum in Richmond is sponsoring artists in watercolor, landscape painting, wax painting, pieced-quilt design, drawing in color, clay sculpture, charcoal portraiture,' banner art, Japanese painting on silk, three-tone contour drawing, instantimage slide photography, and weaving.
Candidates for the program are reviewed by a committee of art professionals including artists, gallery directors, museum education specialists and visual arts instructors.
