P.E. director

Wakefield School in Huntly has announced the appointment of Gary W. Leake of Sperryville as Physical Education Director for the upcoming school year.

Leake is a 1985 B.A. graduate of Shepherd College where he majored in physical education, K-12, and minored in health education. Previously, while attending Lord Fairfax Community College, he was the student director of intramurals.

In college, Leake played varsity baseball and was a member of the National College Players’ League. In addition, he played intramural football, basketball, volleyball and softball.

A 1982 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, Leake was a member of the varsity soccer, basketball and baseball teams and also served as a substitute teacher of P.E. classes in the elementary and high school.

In addition to directing Wakefield’s Physical Education Department, Leake will coach the school’s varsity and junior varsity basketball teams.

In commenting on Leake’s appointment, Headmaster William Lynn stated that he was impressed with the young man’s athletic talent, personality and enthusiasm.

Four earn honors

Four Rappahannock County students earned academic honors at Lord Fairfax Community College during the last spring quarter, it was announced this week.

Cathy A. Atkins was named to the President’s list for maintaining a grade point average higher than 3.8 on a 4.0 grading scale.

Manfred Call, Joel A. Clark and Thomas 0. Williams were named to the dean’s list for scoring a 3.2 GPA or higher during the quarter.
