Siamese twins born
ROANOKE — A Roanoke woman gave birth last Wednesday to 4Vi-pound twin girls joined at the chest and abdomen. The twins were flown to Philadelphia for treatment later in the day, a hospital spokesman said.
Doctors said the twins were in critical condition and that their chance for survival was low because they were born at 29 weeks — 11 weeks premature.
The twins were put aboard a charter aircraft with a neonatal transport team at 7:30 p.m. and flown to the Philadelphia Children’s Hospital, said Vance Whitfield, spokesman for Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
