Within three days, the agency wrote a policy to cover Rappahannock and Supervisors authorized payment of the premium to buy the policy.
In the meantime, the Clement Agency apparently reversed its position and told the county that it can indeed write policies to adequately cover the county’s operations, which include the local public school system.
In addition, Thorton charged the county a S3,000 fee, a figure that could go to $5,000 depending on the amount of work involved. That figure did not include the work involved with insuring the buildings.
Supervisors were told at their Aug. 5 meeting that the double coverage cost the county roughly $1,500 a month.
It is expected that the county will be reimbursed for much of its $15,500 premium paid to Alexander and Alexander, the VML-referred company carrying the county’s policy.
