vision and in the pleasure division was reserve behind Warrenton’s Daphrie Laimbeer. Ms. Drummond won the J. A. B. Dahlgren Memorial Trophy, named in honor of the Rappahannock Hunt’s late joint master, for winning the hunt members division. She also won a $100 gift certificate to Horse Country Saddlery in Warrenton for being the high point rider.
The day’s first winner was Trinlie Yeaman of Culpeper who rode Buttercup to the pony hunter championship. Mike Brown, son of Rappahannock huntsman Oliver Brown, was reserve with On My Honor.
Following the maiden hunter division, won by Stephen Bickels of Crozet on Buckingham, Miss Yeaman was back in the winner’s circle for the schooling hunter division championship.
Despite the miserable conditions, which saw many riders soaked and shivering by the end of the day, hunt officials were pleased with the show.
“We had more entries than we expected,” said announcer Bob Gault of Manassas.
Show chairman Oliver Brown added: “If it hadn’t rained, we would have had a lot more entries. We had a lot of response to this show. People have been calling from Charlottesville, Middleburg and Manassas and even Maryland about it.”
The hunt hopes to have another horse show next year, possibly in the spring. If the rain comes down any harder for next year’s show, the hunt might schedule a water polo game instead.
