Gottlieb says Marshall has the “most difficult job” in RAAC because she is responsible for doling out job assignments but must answer for the successes and failures of other people. There have been only a few failures. “Laurie’s been a massive contributor to RAAC” and a “fantastic plus to the organization,” Gottlieb says.
For someone who was one of 15 people who took on the challenge of organizing Rappahannock County’s artistic ranks, who saw that organization congeal into a 275-member group spanning five surrounding rural counties, Washington, D. C., and its suburbs, Laurie Marshall is very business-like about her decision to leave.
“RAAC is much bigger than the executive director,” she says with the detachment of a corporate executive, downplaying her role. “There are dozens of other people who volunteer” to produce events, adds Marshall.
She also says she hopes “the organization continues to do well, but I’m also ready for a break.”
