Summer vacations are sadly coming to a close with school starting next week for many students. We love vacations, so please call your correspondent with the highlights of your time away from home this summer.
This week’s vacation recalls the lovely lazy beach days at Ocean City, Md. . .riding the waves, feeling the warmth of the sand, watching the sea gulls swooping for food at the end of the day, walking on that never ending boardwalk and smelling the mixture of Thrasher’s french fries and Fisher’s caramel popcorn. This was the memory lane for Richard and Nancy Schoppet who have spent many a good time at the shore.
The Schoppets stayed at 49th on the beach, a short distance from where daughter, Pamela Tribino, was living and working this summer. Tommy, their 13-year-old son, and his friend, David Mosher, of Battle Mountain enjoyed “women watching” and spending all their money. Well, of course!
Sixteen-year-old Richard Tribino and 18-year-old Jim Racer of Washington are recovering from a rough sun scorched week in Nags Head, N. C. They had hard times with Jim losing his glasses in the water, Richard getting stung by jellyfish and both getting broiled by the sun.
So after returning home to Castleton, Richard and Jim decided to throw a “Happy We’re Back” party and invited many notables in the area. Mike “Ole Blue Eyes” DeLuise of Washington, Lucky (yep, the real one) McCoy of Washington and Brian “The Great” Kritz of Amissville. They had a special guest, John Fannon, a famous wrestler who was outside in the pouring rain under the lamp post challenging everyone to a toss on the ground. It was quite a lively evening with music, dancing, billiards, etc. James “All Star” Dennis of Flint Hill was the last to leave. . .and all was quiet at Blue Knoll.

Crusade set
at Culpeper
The Hoppers and Connie, a southern gospel singing group, will perform at a crusade set for August 30 at 7 p.m. at the Culpeper County High School.
Also scheduled is Evangelist Steve Messick.
There is no admission charge and the public is invited.
The Hoppers and Connie were named Top Mixed Group by the Southern Gospel Music Association.
Connie Hopper was named “Queen of Gospel Music” for the second consecutive year at the National Quartet Convention in Nashville last October.
Band Boosters
to meet
The Rappahannock Band Boosters will hold their first meeting of the school year on September 4 at the elementary school.
Parents of high school or elementary school band students are invited.
The 7:30 p.m. meeting will concern raising money, the prime subject of every meeting.

Beahm reunion
set September 1
The second annual reunion of descendants of George Washington Beahm is scheduled for September 1 at the Rappahannock County Park shelter.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend the reunion which begins at 9 a.m. and are asked to bring a covered dish.
A program is scheduled for noon. Dinner will be at 1 p.m. and music performed at 2 p.m.
