Local census figures notwithstanding, there are two tons less people in the area today than there were in February.
That’s the amount - 4500 pounds to be exact - reported in weight loss at weekly meetings of Carol’s Calorie Control Counseling, Ltd. since classes began in February.
Class organizer Carol Campbell checked with a local physician before offering her dieting advice to the public, and a recent computer analysis of the weight loss plan by nutrition experts at Virginia Tech has confirmed his opinion that the diet is a sound one.
“Most important, among the Virginia Tech findings were the facts that the calorie intake is not extremely low and the diet is balanced, drawing from the four basic food groups,” said Campbell.
“Successful weight loss also depends on the source of these calories,” said Campbell. “The Virginia Tech study shows that the percentage of calories derived from fat is within the acceptable range because of the efficient use of vegetables in this diet.”
She emphasized that the diet offers a wide range of foods, including beef and pork, and is not a one-food plan which can quickly prove boring and therefore fail.
