The just completed yearling thoroughbred sales in Saratoga Springs, New York, provided the venue for the sale of 52 Virginia bred, owned, or consigned horses for $9,096,000.
Jim Sharp, equine specialist with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, stated that the upstate New York sale represents the single largest marketing effort each year for the Virginia Thoroughbred industry.
The highest selling thoroughbred yearling with Virginia connections was a bay filly sired by “Magesterial” (by “Northern Dancer”) and out of the stakes producing mare “Sharp Kitty.” L. Clay Camp of Nellysford was the sales agent of this $775,000 offering.
