The Virginia Farm Bureau state 'board of directors has gone on record in favor of the essential elements of the proposals of the Commission on Transportation in the Twenty-First Century. The Commission’s report has received the backing of Governor Gerald Baliles.
The Commission called for commitment of some $6 to $7 billion to transportation needs during the next ten years. This amount would be spent not only on highways but also on ports, airports and mass transit.
In approving the revenue package, the VFBF directors recommended the most feasible proposals that would be least burdensome to farmers during a time many are facing financial difficulties, while still meeting critical farm-to-market transportation needs.
