Granted most individuals who are purged are either deceased or have moved, but thousands of others have simply not voted. Instead of consigning them to the sidelines, let’s keep them on the rolls and redouble our efforts to involve them in politics.
The second constitutional amendment would permit government employees - except those who are elected or who are employed by an elected official - to be appointed assistant
voter registrars. Such an arrangement could allow for voter registration at any Division of Motor Vehicles, for instance, so that individuals securing or renewing an automobile
license could simultaneously and conveniently register to vote as well. This approach has worked well in the states that already permit it, and tens of
thousands of new voters have been signed up as a result. It should be stressed that this is not a partisan measure; both the Democratic and Republican parties in Virginia have proven well able to conduct exten
