Another motion indicating the council’s concern that the public be sufficiently informed about the new ordinances was also adopted. Suggestions included an “executive summary” of the ordinances and public meetings. Mayor Morehouse said that “my concern is that it be easy to understand. If it takes someone sitting at a typewriter for a week — that’s what it takes. That’s small potatoes compared to the people’s lives we’ve affected tonight.” That motion also passed unanimously.
The motion to adopt the amendments to the zoning ordinance was passed by the council by a vote of four to two. Mr. Morehouse, Mr. Fisher, Mrs. Clater and Mrs. Willis voted in favor of passage. Mr. Skowronski and Mrs. Thomasson opposed adoption of the ordinance. Council member William Wickens was not present at Wednesday’s council meeting.
