State Senator Kevin G. Miller (R-26th) announced that he has scheduled a public meeting in the clerk s office at the courthouse in Washington on Tuesday, September 2, from 11 a. m. until noon.
“I will be holding this public meeting in Rappahannock County prior to the 1986 Special Session of the Virginia General Assembly which is scheduled to begin on September 15. It will provide an opportunity for individuals to express their views on the proposals submitted to Governor Baliles by the Commission on Transportation Into the 21st Century.”
Senator Miller said that the commission’s recommendations to generate revenue for transportation funding include the following: •A one-cent increase in the state sales tax. •An additional four cent per gallon increase in the state gasoline tax. •Doubling the titling tax on vehicles from two to four percent. •The issuance of pledge bonds for transportation funding.
