Ten new teachers began their first school year in Rappahannock County last Thursday.
The four new teachers in the elementary school are Denise Mcllwaine, Debbie Famham, Sherri Brightbill and Cheryl Alexander.
Fifth grade teacher Denise Mcllwaine is from Famham, Virginia. She graduated from VPI with a BA degree in Elementary Education. This is her first year of teaching. Ms. Mcllwaine likes this area and is especially glad to be teaching in Rappahannock County since she graduated from “the other Rappahannock school.”
Debbie Famham has the seventh grade math position. She is from Burlington, N.J. and received a BS degree from Shenandoah College in Elementary Education. She enjoys playing the flute and tennis. Ms. Famham decided to become a teacher because she “loves kids.” This is her first year of teaching.
Sherri Brightbill will be teaching a kindergarten class. Since graduating from Bloomsburg University with a BS degree in Early Childhood Education she taught Preschool in Olyphant, Penn, for a semester and has been a reading tutor. She is from Nicholson, Penn. Ms. Brightbill is anxious to meet her students and hopes to “prepare them for the next grade. Pm going to try to accomplish that in an enjoyable way.”
Third grade teacher Cheryl Alexander has taught for one year. She is from Mt. Sidney, Virginia and received a BS degree in Early Childhood Education from JMU. “All I’ve
