Food contract
offer declined

David Godwin, owner of the Village Cafe, has written a letter to the county’s Board of Supervisors expressing interest in negotiating a year-long contract to provide food for the county jail’s inmates.
But according to County Administrator John McCarthy, the board is satisfied with the service now being provided by Hampton Inn proprietor William Frizzell, and is rtot interested in breaking that contract.
Mr. Godwin was first approached by Mr. McCarthy some weeks ago, while the county was appealing the denial of its application for a jail addition by Washington’s Architectural Review Board.
At that time, Mr. McCarthy said, the county was concerned that several complaints from inmates about the food might cause Mr. Frizzell to exercise his 30-day notice of termination of the contract. “I quite frankly had a fear that he might terminate the contract, that he might be so offended by the complaints —which I found unjustified — but that he might cancel.”
