Story hour at Library

Story hour will be held at the Rappahannock Library each Wednesday through Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. Barbara Caillagh will present a children’s presentation and musicial. All area children are invited to attend. For additional information concerning story hour call the Library at 675-3780.

SAT prep course

Wakefield School in Huntly will hold a SAT prep course for students entering grades 9-12 on Aug. 10-14 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $125. For more information call 703-635-8111.

Reunion planned

The annual reunion of the family of the late Alfred and Catherine Gearing Jenkins will be held Sunday, August 13, at the Rappahannock Recreation Center, Route 211, Washington. All relatives and friends are invited to attend. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day. Lunch will be served at 12:30.

The Thin Blue Line'

The movie The Thin Blue Line will be playing at the Gay Street. Theater on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. A brilliantly stylized and ground-breaking docu-drama directed by Errol Morris. A chilling piece of work which borrows well from movies about miscarriages of justice such as Hitchcock’s The Wrung Man. Morris contends the wronged man is Randall Morris, accused of the murder of a Dallas cop. Morris explores the case and goes well beyond it, to the darker side of justice and to a vision that is both poetic and perverse. The movie is Unrated. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.

Washington's birthday bash

The town of Washington will celebrate its 240th birthday on Saturday, Aug. 19 on Gay St. at the courthouse, with volleyball, children’s games, and other events beginning at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m. the bluegrass band New Liberty will perform, followed at 8 p.m. by the Cross Country band. There will also be hotdogs, hamburgers, barbecue, roasted corn on the cob, beer, wane and soft drinks. All will benefit the Washington Volunteer Fire Department.

Watercolors at Middle St.

Nationally known watercolorist Arnold C. Holeywell will be featured in an exhibit at the Middle St. Gallery in Washington during August. The exhibition will begin on Saturday, Aug. 12 with an opening reception from 4-6 p.m. Mr. Holeywell has traveled extensively in Europe and America, and many of his paintings reflect that wide variety of experience. In recent years he has painted extensively in Virginia. The main body of the exhibition will be a group of paintings of gasoline stations from across America. Middle St. Gallery is open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and by appointment. For further information call 675-3340.
