“She has not done what she should do," said Benedetti, “and that is to get up on her hind legs and tell people who are dealing drugs in Virginia that we wall not tolerate them.”
Benedetti said that as attorney general he would be the chief law’ enforcement officer for the Commonwealth. He said he would introduce legislation to administer drug assets to localities, with 75 percent going to the localities where the drugs were seized and 25 percent going to smaller communities who need the funds to fight the drug war.
The 60-year-old Richmond lawryer also said he would establish a nerve center which would allow law enforcement officers around the state to communicate the happenings in the drug world.
To solve prison overcrowding problems, Benedetti advocates building more prisons as well as using innovative ideas such as shock incarceration, electric surveillance, strict probation, and prison.privatization.
“I plan to be a proactive attorney general as opposed to the reactive attorney general that we have now,” Benedetti told the group.
Del. Guest, too, hammered on the Democrats, including members of the General Assembly, urging the Rappahannock residents to rally for the GOPs.
“When one group of people has had absolute pow’er for too long, you get the arrogance of one-party-rule, a,pd that is wrong,” said Guest, pounding the table with his fist to emphasize his point.
The prospects for an August 18 debate between the gubernatorial candidates before the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce remains clouded, according to Coleman.
“What’s happened is I’ve been stiffed by him [Wilder! twice . . . He’s an unreliable debating partner and has a practice of saying he’ll be there, discombobulating your w’hole campaign, and then he doesn’t show’ up,” explained Coleman.
Instead, Coleman favors two statewide televised debates, “so everyone in the state can see us.”
Members of the Wilder campaign said, however, that Wilder will be at the scheduled Chamber of Commerce event ready to debate.
