Interpretive tours of the two main buildings will be offered both days, and transportation will be provided from the Harry F. Byrd Visitor Center-, at Milepost 51 on the Skyline Drive, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A sandwich concession will be available at the Camp.
Specially scheduled guided hikes will leave from the Visitor Center each day at 9:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to wear proper footgear for a 3-mile hike and to be prepared for rain.
All of the regularly scheduled daytime activities at Byrd Visitor Center will be cancelled for those days.
The area was selected by Mr. .Hoover shortly after his election in 1928. He was looking for a site near Washington, D.C., with good fishing and no mosquitoes. After selection of the perfect place in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Mr. Hoover purchased the land and building materials, and the U.S. Marine Corps constructed the Camp.
