Earlier the supervisors had heard that there had been some progress on the jail addition.
Mr. McCarthy reported that the Washington Town Council had supported the county in its appeal of the Architectural Review Boards denial for the project, but that final design plans would be subject to ARB approval. “Thus it appears that we are going ahead,” he said.
He also explained that when the plans were sent to Richmond for approval, 25 questions had been raised. He said that the architect had been able to satisfy Richmond on most of those points, but that the architect and the sheriff would go to Richmond to work out understandings on the remaining questions.
He said that Del. Andy Guest had already prepared a bill to have the county reimbursed for the state’s 50 percent share of the cost of the addition up to $100,000. He said that the county hoped to get the costs of moving the summer kitchen, retiling portions of the second and third floors of the current jail where they connect with the addition, and repainting the roof included in the ko'iy“'C that the state would pay half of the cost.
