“At one time, Sperryville, Flint Hill, Willis Chapel, Washington and Amissville all belonged to the same circuit,” Mrs. Chandler explained, adding that church members from Methodist churches in those areas could be part of this charge.
She explained that as time progressed into the 20th Century, the church became a three point church — sharing ministers with Jeffersonton and Oak Shades in Culpeper County and later a two point church — sharing ministers with Jeffersonton.
It was not until 1982 that the church was given a station minister — the presiding minister, Rev. Steve Parker.
“One minister covered the entire area,” Mrs. Chandler said, explaining that often Baptists or people of other denominations attended the Amissville United Methodist Church since a church of their own denominations were not available.
