The list also showed those who hadn’t paid taxes in previous years. After taxes are unpaid for three years, the county can advertise to have the properties sold for unpaid taxes.
After looking over the list for those properties on which three years’ worth of taxes were owed, Mr. Luke noted that they were mostly small lots in Chester Gap which couldn’t be used as building lots because the land won’t perk. The tax monies wouldn’t make up the cost of advertising the sale, he said.
