Amissville United Methodist Church members are putting on their Sunday best for a big celebration.
Robed in 19th Century tops hats and hoop skirts, the Methodists will celebrate the 160th anniversary of their church on Sunday, Aug. 13.
“It's going to be a real celebration,” church member and anniversary committee member Judy Chandler said, her voice trembling with excitement. After four months of careful preparation, the committee, composed of 12 members, has tried “to think of everything,” for the special 10:30 a.m. celebration, Mrs. Chandler said.
But, this isn’t just a celebration for the Methodists, The Amissville United Methodist Church, located on Rt. 211, greeted churchgoers of many denominations for generations and church members from around Rappahannock and Culpeper counties are invited to attend the anniversary festivities.
